Great for trying various things, but odd design and no room for heaters
By Evan on December 31, 2012 14 of 15 people found this review useful If you wish to test out different sump designs, this really is likely an excellent place to begin, specifically for the cost. However, there are several annoying oddities. I'm utilizing it for any ~150 gallon turtle aquarium, and so i have some odd usage too. Because the turtles eat pretty much every plant except java fern and java moss, I'm managing a refugium for many fast-growing plants to assist with nitrate. However, I also need to run some biomedia (Within my situation, Seachem Matrix). This does not situation exercise very well as they are, but after a little great work, it's running well.
The great:
1) Uses standard 4" socks. As the aqueon socks are nice, They're costly, therefore it is great so that you can buy standard size socks, unlike other brands using difficult to find square ones or non-standard 3.75" and other craziness. Additionally, it enables you to change micron size easily, as aqueon only appears to create one. for example, I'm able to run two 200 micron and one 50 micron a couple of days for many relatively quick water polishing.
2) For lower turnover, nearly dead silent. Should you keep your GPH low enough using hard plumbing so that air bubbles don't form, the underwater inlet design is almost silent. The only real factor you'll hear is water running in the second towards the 3rd chamber should you keep your 3rd chamber reasonably low.
3) reasonably listed. Yes, the acrylic is thinner than it may be, no flame polished edges, etc, but that keeps the price lower. To date it is just a healthyOrreally feel issue and not really a functionality issue. When the edges are glued well it should not leak, but we'll see. I am wishing others with leaks were a producing defect and not really a design issue.
4) Highly configurable. Read more › Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... Appreciate your feedback. If the review is inappropriate, Please tell us. Sorry, we unsuccessful to record your election. Please try again Good Product BUT Leaked!

6 of seven people found this review useful Love the style of the pump and was exactly what I had been searching for. Regrettably, there's a lesser corner leak within the third chamber. It had been just a little disheartening when i had my reef tank up and running already. I already hard plumbed the sump towards the display with PVC. so, if I needed to give it back, I would need to dismantel it by cutting the drain pipe and replacing the bulkhead. This is considerable time a cost. I Quickly would need to return the merchandise and wait again to allow them to ship it to me. I could not manage to wait that lengthy as my tank had been filled with water and some animals.
so, I made the decision to empty the entire sump and just re-sealed the perimeters with plastic. It stopped the leak and hopefully it will not open again. I understand the merchandise includes a warranty against leaks. like I stated, the sump works fine now, just disappointed I'd to handle the leak.1 Comment Was this review useful for you? I acquired the model 4 and you should know it's 2 inlet ports and 3 socks, otherwise the remainder is really as the image shows. I'm by using this on the 75 gallon reef tank and It's working great. it showed up who is fit, every part have there been. As was pointed out by others, Used to do need to buy aquarium sealer and fix a few locations that were not glued good enough in the manufacturer. They appear to become skimping on sealer. It had been quite simple to simply operate a bead of plastic sealer across the panels and in 24 hrs was all set. I am while using second section using the biomedia accessory pack and it easily entered place. The model 4 holds approximately 30 gallons when completely full. This can be considered overkill by a few for any 75 gallon aquarium, but it fit nicely underneath the stand and In my opinion you cannot must much bio-action permanently water quality. Shrimp and fish which do finish in the sump are typically in the socks and I simply check every couple days and move them look out onto the very best. No leaks allow us in the last month, Everything working great.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... this sump is effective. I believe the cost is fair. the socks need frequent cleaning, they are doing support and water will bypass them. but still it works awesome. Its pretty quiet, for any sump. If only it is built to run water level just a little greater inside it. I've large pumps inside it and they'll suck air pretty quick.Comment Was this review useful for you? By Johnny on September 25, 2014 a couple of people found this review useful Not a new comer to to tropical reef keeping. Bought the model4 while while moving my Oceanic 120 to a different house, and new tank. I have been running this sump just for over 6 several weeks now. It's setup, within the fundamental Marineland stand, under a Marineland 180gallon (72"X24"X24") display tank .It's configured refugium style, having a internal Deltec 1455 set within the last chamber. I have resided by using it lengthy enough to determine both, the positive and Negative.
The great points are: (1)easy to setup. Everything incorporated. (2)The covers keep splashing and salt creep under control. (3)Drains are pretty quiet.(4)looks great. (5)Filter socks are simple to install and remove. (6)Not too tall, made plumbing easy- even just in a small height stand. (last tank had a stand with 6" more height )
Unhealthy points are: (1)THE ACRYLIC IS THIN..... and that actually worries me. The acrylic bows slightly. I do not appreciate that since my last setup was an Oceanic sump, built just like a 1950's fallout shelter. (2)as they are,the acrylic edges were really sharp enough, which i ran an even file them over to knock lower the advantage, regarding avoid future cuts, while doing maintenance.(3) Overall volume must have been greater, when advertising use having a 180 or 220 gallon tank. Personally i think it truly is at their maximum with my 180. When pump shutdown occurs, plumbing drains, and all continues to be - there's little room for error with overflowing.(4) The 90s which were provided using the drain lines wept water in the threaded area. Easy solution was teflon tape.(5) Although the filter socks are easy to install/remove , they're a royal discomfort to washOrwash due to the plastic handle. I cut them out, in order to turn the baggage thoroughly. Read more › Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback...
