New software is a huge improvement
By Arsenal Gunner on December 23, 2009 Bought this technique to warm-up my vehicle prior to getting in throughout the winter. To begin with, the command to begin my vehicle works MAYBE 50% of times. Next, there's no confirmation on whether your automobile received the command or otherwise, so generally, I trudge with the snow simply to be amazed to locate my truck still icy and unstarted. I've had to resort to using the keychain remote starter (rather of my iPhone) which completely negates the objective of this overpriced bit of garbage. AVOID No Matter What.
Wanted to update my review....since my primary review above, Viper has released a brand new form of the program which now transmits a confirmation back in case your vehicle has gotten the command. this really is night and day difference than the old software. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend thie Viper SmartStart system to anybody and am altering my review to 4 stars. (Minus 1 star for cost).3 Comments 128 of 141 people found this useful. By tj2k on December 22, 2010 This Seemed like this kind of awesome idea. No keyfob to hold, limitless range...cost was a little more than the usual traditional remote start, and annual service charges, but that appeared suitable for the advantages.
With the exception that it just works about 25% of times. It isn't that you simply think the vehicle is began, but It isn't, it is extremely good about suggesting once the start command is received through the vehicle or otherwise...it is simply it does not send the command. My experience isn't any quantity of retrying will make it work either, I have spent 30+ minutes striking the button Over and over (takes 1 minute to timeout) and didn't have success. either it really works, or it will not work. The installer shop recommended I add-on an antenna and keyfob remote because the mobile phone interface is really hard to rely on. In order to pay MORE, and get less functionality...awesome.
I have seen other reports of individuals claiming these were told they have oversold capacity and can't continue...but last I checked, they are STILL selling units and taking money, and so i can't imagine things getting much better.
EDIT 2/24/12
Desired to update this earlier one star review since it is no more accurate.
Viper has addressed whatever network issues these were getting and now reliability is great for me personally. I get "failure for connecting" maybe 5% of times, but a retry may even work.
One oddity, the "failure to connects" were in the 100% mark a couple of several weeks ago, and after i threw in the towel and contacted support, they sent me a link to download a special version of the app for my phone (EVO 4G) and everything disappeared. Viper support has really been very good.
Everything being stated, I am updating my review to 4 stars. Read more › Comment 36 of 42 people found this useful. Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... By John on December 17, 2013 I bought the Viper VSS-4000 with high hopes last fall (November 2012). I bought and compensated for install in a local, big-box store within Columbus, Ohio. I bought this package (4000) since i determined that getting an inexpensive 1-way remote is a great back-in situation my iPhone died or I did not have cell service or my vehicle was parked inside a dead zone. The one thing that I didn't consider were the claimed "network issues" (however i think a Viper issue, not cell provider).
Quick background - I curently have the Viper 5901 installed without Smartstart on my small wife's vehicle... No issues there, and we have been very satisfied.
After my VSS-4000 smartstart unit was installed, I noticed that it took anywhere from 12-30 seconds for a command (Remote start, Lock, unLock) to become sent, received through the vehicle, and that i can obtain the success confirmation on my small iPhone. It was just a little annoying, but I figured it might be something that I possibly could deal for that convenience it offered. What I didn't realize is the fact that I'd have intermittent success and failures with my vehicle within that first week.
Now I have heard that smartstart uses AT&T's wireless network that is interesting since i have AT&T cell service on my cell phone, I live in the city limits of Columbus (excellent reception), and Yet for whatever reason, I never have such problems with my SMS (actual texts, we are NOT speaking about iMessage, only the SMS).
What I did notice was consistent failures from early AM hours until mid-morning hours (~5am to around 9am) where one can essentially rely on the vehicle start command to fail. By thisblackgenius on December 18, 2012 This is definitely the worst experience I have had having a product since shopping on the web. I'd such high hopes that this type of large company would deliver me routine good service. I am NOT Speaking Concerning The SELLER I am Speaking ABOUT The Organization WHO MANUFACTURES The Merchandise DIRECTED.
Where must i start, to begin with they need that you've a professional install your products and that you simply get your product from the " licensed distributor," supposedly to help keep "prices fair." That means if you buy from an online source (regardless of how they're highly regarded) they're not going to uphold your warranty. Exactly what a load of crap! The good thing is that many companies warrant your web purchase. Yet giving them a call could be pointless in additional ways than a single.
Next, I made the decision to UPGRADE my home security system by buying their Gps navigation module call SMARTSTART. Which isn't merely a $250 add one, but also cost another $70 for any yearly membership. In this membership you are being (Allegedly) because of the security of having the ability to check on your vehicles location, (Not Even Close To) immediately text in case your vehicle alarm is triggered, text in case your vehicle is passed a particular area, or simply in a position to set your alarm, or panic button everywhere you've got a phone signal, as well as roadside assistance. THE SMARTSTART SYSTEM WORKS If This Really Wants To. I've Been LOCKED OUT A Couple of Occasions As This FEATURE Unsuccessful To Operate. I EVEN SPENT MONEY To Possess ANOTHER LICENSED PROFESSIONAL Look Into The WORK From The ORIGINAL PROFESSIONAL WHO DID MY INSTALL And That He FOUND NO FLAW Inside It. THAT Require Me To Pay $40. I Got Myself MY YEARLY MEMBERSHIP ON 9/27/2012. This will be significant please continue studying, Please.
Along with your membership you supposedly have a year of (Allegedly) safe reassuring road side assistance. Read more › 1 Comment 71 of 88 people found this useful. Was this review useful for you?
