A Great Beginning Point to have an Arduino and Microprocessor Controller Hobbyist
By W. Moncure on This summer 22, 2012 For those who have relatively little background in circuit design or electrical engineering, it is good to begin with the basics and develop and knowledge of how electrical circuits operate in their various configurations. If you're going to incorporate a relatively sensitive (to spikes in current, miswired circuits) microcontroller package like the Arduino 1, proceed and have this package from Radio Shack which includes the 2 workbooks from Forrest Mimms, III.
What you'll get using this package is fairly amazing. You receive a group of potentiometers / variable Resistors, spring-contact LED's prewired with Resistors, a speaker, a piezoelectric buzzer, and almost everything you would get started with circuit design and simple integration with Arduino. Beyond that you get a fairly simple amp-meter (apologies for errors in terminology - I had been an British & Fine Arts major attending college), an enormous breadboard with 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, and 9 volt terminals (maybe another - can't recall) and ground, jumper wires which are really good, and a bundle of IC's, Resistors, Transistors, Capacitors, LED's, and other diodes which get you moving as long as you follow Forrest Mimms' lucid and handwritten instructions within the book.
I mention the "book" or "books" incorporated within this package, because if you buy the merchandise from Radio Shack you receive two books that show you with the summary of circuits and IC circuit design basics. If you are ordering the product from the third-party seller, make certain the books are incorporated since they're invaluable to guiding you thru the procedure. Should you compare the cost of the package versus buying all of the parts individually it is a fantastic deal. The training lab is come up with perfectly and is effective. The incorporated books are very good and build upon themselves well. The font is a touch obnoxious and some instructions are slightly vague but nothing terrible.
This includes the majority of the parts needed to check out the Make: Electronics book so if you wish to use that book you'll be able to save lots of money on component costs just by while using bits of this package.
I would suggest getting a nice pair of tweezers (Wiha 44501) because the breadboard could possibly get a little cramped. You also might want to pick up a digital multimeter (Extech EX330 or MN35), separate breadboard, and some alligator clips all of which are cheaply available on .Comment 9 of 9 people found this useful. My 15 years old wanted to understand more about electronics and this is a great puchase. Hrs of engaging learning and fun for him. Spoken to some master electrician friend and he states he increased track of this and thinks it is good since it shows you "why" not only "how to".Comment 7 of seven people found this useful. I acquired this in my 11 years old and myself like a father and son activity . We are attempting to fit over a couple of pages using the projects each day. On just the second day he was studying the schematic to put together the work, as was I. I've no training within this and previously after i have attempted to check out schematics I've become dizzy. I believe the manuals that include it are ideal for beginners. The most crucial factor is my boy really enjoys it, just like I. The cost about this is ideal for the training, and fun together with your kid, it delivers. The company was very worried about client satisfaction and enclosed an email to make contact with them when there were any problems, and I figured which was refreshing.Comment 4 of four people found this useful. This review is for the Radio Shack (28-280) Electronics Learning Lab; bought at . This is a great product for introducing your daughter (or boy) in to the electronic world. The lab includes a bread board circuit design center that is how an electronics expert would generate a circuit design. Additionally, it provides extensive "support" products like switches, LED's (Indicator lights), Variable Resistors, a speaker, a meter built in a plastic board (box?) in order that it does not "hang through the board".
The books, that include the Lab, are first class and guide you through assembling the first circuit. You will see that the particular resisters, Capacitors, Transistors and integrated chips are similar to you'd purchase from an outlet so replacements are easy.
I additionally recommend this Lab for electronic hobby use. for 40 dollars (USD) you've got a very affordable bread board platform. You might also need plenty of parts to begin with.
You could buy the next higher up model (300 in 1) from but there's only oneOr3 more experiments for just two 1/2 occasions the cost.Comment 2 of two people found this useful. This really is useful if you're a new comer to electronics and would like to learn the fundamentals rapidly.
I'd recommend this as a present for a kid. The project book that comes with it
will keep them busy (and learning) for any very very long time.Comment 2 of two people found this useful. Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... I could take advantage of parts from it so my daughter could build things she required to build on her senior high school physics class. Has a nice manual for that projects that it's intended. Delivery was great as I have arrived at expect.Comment 1 of just one people found this useful. Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback...
