I am not just one to create reviews. However, maybe this helps others to help make the best purchase decision.
After utilizing a similar styrofoam model for six prior hatches with results varying from 40% to 75% hatch rate, I got myself this model due to the features. Large Egg capacity, air flow, egg turner, & viewing home windows & obviously, Cost.
I just read other reviews which cautioned about to not trust the thermometer & thermostat. I believed that my digital thermometer would take proper care of any short comings.
after delivery, added water Ran the incubator instantly making alterations in get within the plethora of 99.5-100 levels. This required many adjustments rapidly finding the two provided thermometers were useless.
I added 30 Black Cooper Maran eggs from the own flock, checking and making minor adjustments as needed during the day. After seven days candled the eggs discovering that were fertile. so, maybe all was good?
Within the new 2 days, I checked around the incubator a minimum of 6 occasions each day ensuring the high temperature & moisture were within the correct ranges. All appeared fine. Switched from the egg turner 4 days prior to the expected hatch. If this batch was began, yet another 12 eggs was put within brooder hen. Around the 20th night the final check up on the incubator was fine. Visited sleep looking to welcome the seem of chirping chicks. Around the morning from the 21st day, I checked around the hen. Half her eggs had hatched. Then visited begin to see the incubator, to my horror digital thermometer read "105"! Unsure why it spiked, but introduced the temp back done. Were left with two chicks from 30.
Will attempt yet another hatch. Although not feeling confident.13 Comments Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... By WeAreTheCoolness on August 26, 2012
I reviewed A variety of models before purchasing an incubator. cost and reading user reviews performed significant roles by which on we decide. Also of note, we do not have lots of chickens, in regards to a dozen, but it seemed cost effective to buy this product over smaller models (Brinsea small or similar).
The 2 primary complaints we found while reviewing products was obtaining a unit to carry its temp. and getting one that displayed the temp. precisely. in my experience, getting one that supports the temp. accurately was more important than one displaying the temp wrongly because I can replace a thermometer much easier (and cheaper) than replacing an electric heating unit.
That being stated, the kodak playtouch camcorder doesn't need yet another thermometer - it arrives with two. The main thermometer/humidity gauge is labelled "For Reference Only" and mine wasn't accurate. Actually the thermometer is much off - about 10 levels. Its an inexpensive piece likely employed for humidity gauge rather of temp. and can be easily removed/replaced if you wanted (I discovered utilizing a cheap cooking thermometer works all right, place it with the styrofoam near the original temp. Gauge).
The system does provide an additional thermometer, which fits all right. Farm Innovators suggests placing it on the top from the eggs. This works/reads precisely.
So far as setting the high temperature - stick to the directions. They suggest running the system for six-8hrs prior to trying to incubate. Plan on randomly checking the temp (every half an hour for an hour) in that time til you have arrived at and are holding the correct temp.
****Bonus: I dont recall studying this within the description of product or details, but I received a candling light using the product. Read more › 6 Comments Was this review useful for you? After much studying and researching I made the decision which i certainly wanted a circulating air incubator by having an automatic turner. It has everything for an affordable cost and they put inside a candler too. The temp and humidity gauges are suitable for reference only and so i used a meat thermometer through among the small vent holes on top in to the unit using the incorporated bulb thermometer inside to calibrate my setup. Once which was done, it needed only minor tweaking once the eggs went in. The high temperature remained constant through the cycle. On day 18 I removed the turner, filled all water reservoirs and placed the eggs directly on the hardware-cloth (we reside in Arizona and I did not want something that may have a drying effect, for example cloth or paper, underneath the eggs.) Today we're just beginning day 21 and I'm already at 60% hatch rate. I actually do move these to a brooder once they've been from the covering for around an hour. Acquiring local eggs is one thing I would suggest for those who have that option and my second recommendation is simply allow it to happen, the greater you stress, the greater you stress the procedure.1 Comment Was this review useful for you? I truly loved the thought of the plastic covering because my cat loves the nice and cozy incubators and constitutes a mess from the others together with her claws each time I forget to pay for them up. but, this incubator cooked my first batch of eggs a number of occasions. It's difficult to control the high temperature unless of course you've got a room in which the ambient temperature never fluctuates. I Do Not. I ran three incubators alongside this spring, and that one had wild temperature fluctuations once the others did not. The dials also loaded with moisture a lot they could not be read. Even if your temperature was 105, the heater did not turn off. It simply stored directly on cooking.3 Comments Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback...
