By Jigsaw on Next Month, 2011 This can be a simple, affordable way to possess a way of measuring fundamental control of connected electric devices. I've been by using this product in my snakes for 18+ years. I personally use it to manage my ceramic heat emitters. I simply purchased another for any new tank setup. It doesn't have recently three settings as the second reviewer indicated. It's a true rheostat with variable control. This really is simple to test. Plug an incandescent lamp into for this device and you will find that while you turn the dial, it dims the bulb easily and evenly from high to low.
This isn't however an instantly modifying device. It's not a thermostat. You'll need thermometers within the tank to watch cage temp and you need to by hand turn the dial lower or up according to ambient 70 degrees to manage the cage temp. For those who have cats or any other pets that may have fun with the dial, I would recommend with a couple velcro to mount the control dial towards the wall or putting the control inside a place that is inaccessible for your other pets.
The unit is lengthy lasting and Fairly durable. I'm not very difficult around the device and I'm still using my original one from 18 years back- for the similar Royal Python). Don't exceed the 150W limit. Personally, i don't connect greater than 120 total watts towards the device, and I've it connected to an outburst strip.Comment Was this review useful for you? I selected up the product with the thought of manipulating the temperatures within my ball pythons enclosure but even about this rheostat's cheapest setting it had been still method to hot. If this sounds like used along with an under tank heated save the cash and just obtain a connect lamp dimmer for lowe's.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... By Benjamin P. Larsen on October 4, 2011
Works as described think electric blanket. Your family will enjoy very minor alterations in regulate electric energy and Therefore, Temperature. This item is quite archaic, but I acquired it in my King Snake, who does not mind getting a continuing temp on a single finish from the cage and a cooler side alternatively. For any more intensive temperature flux situation, I suggest a genuine, Digital Temperature Controller.
The one that handles more wattage and includes a three prong outlet, an electronic display and temperature probe for automatic regulation is just a little more costly: Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat For Heat Mats
-EDIT SEVERAL Several weeks LATER - Drop the idea of having a rheostat if you're seriously interested in your dog. Throughout the summer time several weeks, I discovered the rheostat to become a discomfort, especially attempting to keep the temp. Stable. *I suggest the Thermostat pointed out above completely*, as it features a temp shutoff. for $26, derive it. Exactly the same kind of item by Zoo Mediterranean is about $50 I believe, and isn't even pretty much as good!Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... I suppose I did not do enough research about this and think it is another thing. Essentially its only a light dimmer and doesnt really dim much. Not really utilizing it at this time because the lamp is on full blast anyways because its so cold in NY. However I will most likely utilize it within the summer time time and get it around the cheapest setting so my turtle doesnt overheat. I kinda wish it might be a larger difference from high to low, but Its okay.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... By Hannah on March 22, 2015
ehhhhh. I had been expecting this to become a real thermostat that turns heat element on/off with respect to the temperature within the terrarium. Rather, it simply enables you to alter the temperature to low/medium/high and you have to be able to monitor the temperature in the terrarium with a separate thermometer (which you ought to have anyways) and checking it semi-frequently to make certain it isn't hot or freezing.
I suppose I misinterpret it. :( "Rheostat" is not the cutesy word for "reptile thermostat" (or whatever.. IDK what I believed it meant...)
I hope our A/C never goes out this summer (enjoy it did last summer time, around the hottest day of the season) or my hermies are likely to fry while I am at the office.Comment Was this review useful for you?
