By Cactus Chris on December 29, 2006 I have been searching for the way to simply convert that old vinyl to ipod device-ready MP3s. A lot of my old LPs won't ever begin to see the light of the CD which means this appeared as if an excellent, one-step method of digitizing that old, round, black things with the grooves.
Backstory: I am a Mac guy, and I have labored with and trained audio production for several years and so i pretty much know my way round the audio world. Nevertheless...
this works very well, but includes a couple of limitations. As they are it plugged in through the USB port and it also has stereo RCA jacks (for example would plug into the rear of your tuner/amp) Around the back. Drawback #1 is that the RCA jacks are hard-wired into the base of the turntable so if you don't use them (and therefore are while using USB connector) there is no method to eliminate them. They dangle. This _could_ be creating a problem and I'll address that in just a minute.
The turntable labored great, though I"m unsure why installed a pitch control onto it should there be no strobe light to ensure the rate from the unit. Kind of like placing a tachometer on the vehicle by having an automatic transmission. Why?
beyond that, It's two speeds, 33 and 45 (with adapter) and the LPs sounded OK around the speed. If you're attempting to digitize your old 78s, you are able to record them at 33 and use the software (see below) to encourage them to the best speed.
Drawback #2: No tonearm cueing lever which means you are by hand shedding the arm to the vinyl disk. Don't drink lots of coffee before you decide to cue your records, especially since it features a counterweight adjustment around the tonearm which make the tonearm almost wightless. It really tough (even without coffee) to decrease that ultra-light arm to the vinyl without bounce and shake. be cautious... Read more › 19 Comments Was this review useful for you? with a. Manley on This summer 18, 2007 The thought of getting a turntable plug into the computer is excellent! The thought of easily ripping LPs is better still! A couple of minor changes and this may be perfect.
1. USB support
2. Supplied software easy to use once set up
3. good quality sound
4. replaceable cartridge (Unlike its cousin, the ION turntable, also built by Numark)
5. No noticeable hum
6. 1/8" stereo input to copy cassettes or other things.
1. completely manual - no auto reject, so don't leave the area and your investment record, you'll have a wrecked needle and a brand new groove dug within the record.
2. No cue lever - a hassle unless you are very careful each time
3. Power switch in back of unit for some reason
4. Software (Audacity) did not use Home windows Vista, had to try 3 different versions of the software until I found a version that worked (version 1.2.6)
5. To use the pc loudspeakers for just about any other purpose compared to turntable, the Numark USB cable needs to be unplugged, not only switched off. when it's connected, there's no seem from Itunes, or other things. I attempted altering the exclusive use establishing User Interface but to no avail (anybody come with an answer?)5 Comments Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... By Richard L. Coffelt on November 5, 2007
This Numark USB turntable addresses a really old problem for me personally... those of easily creating digital files from selected tracks- from the 2000+ licorace pizza albums and vintage 45's.
You will find good suggests this turntable, and Some negatives. The parent company (Numark) also markets the "ION 'iTTUSB" turntable. The differences (besides graphics & cost) between your Numark and ION are: the ION has a PLASTIC platter; the Numark has a DIECAST & MACHINED ALUMINUM platter (better mass, for additional consistent disc speed). The Numark TTUSB comes with an "S" formed "tone arm," where-because the ION includes a straight arm the cartridge around the ION includes a non-replaceable needle within the cartridge, where-because the needle IS replaceable around the TTUSB the TTUSB includes a rather rudimentary "speed control," that they call "pitch control," that the ION doesn't have. Here's in which the variations finish. BOTH are of (Almost all) plastic construction. Both of them are "belt-driven," instead of "direct-drive." NEITHER has "cueing" ability (that makes it simpler to put the needle with an album, and selecting Wherever you want to put it), and have a variable tone arm "mass weight," for placing the correct pressure on the needle (or stylus). The Numark TTUSB also offers an "anti-skate" adjustment. There is NO (Factory) dust cover readily available for either. Weight between the ION & Numark is nearly identical (12 lbs shipping is all about $1 per pound).
Both of them includes a CD- that has "Audacity" this is actually the software the "go-between," and makes it possible for you to save your (scanned) sound files it may also help you to definitely edit any flaws out. By V. Pennington on The month of january 12, 2007
with this particular item. I had been searching for any turntable, and discovered this. I'm glad Used to do. He is able to not just play his records through the stereo, but he is able to connect laptops towards the USB cable and record his favorites to participate in the vehicle. A lot of my husband's albums haven't been released on CD yet, and some might never, but now he's it well! The instructions are really quite simple, although it required a couple of trial and errors to know a few things. Note: At the base is really a switch we did not initially observe that contributed to recording. Make certain you see it.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback...
