Garmin Nuvi 255w
By Schultzie on June 30, 2008
I really couldn't decide between your Garmin Nuvi 255w or even the 750 model, and so i made the decision to purchase them for both comparison. I mounted both of them to my vehicle car windows and gave them various addresses to locate together. I discovered that both models required exactly the same routes and announced approaching turns and street names at practically the same time frame. One factor I observed concerning the 255w was it had become updating my position on the highway more frequently, I'd say about 3 occasions as frequently because the 750. This designed for smoother graphics around the 255w from the vehicle moving along displayed roads, in which the 750's display was much more of a "jerky" movement. I additionally discovered that the visible on the 255w would be a bit better, clearer, and more vivid than you are on the 750 both in daylight and During the night. Another feature I love around the 255w may be the graphic turn indicator within the upper left corner, that the 750 lacks. This can be a small arrow which shows approaching turns and the length to that particular turn. Additionally, it show such things as a fork within the road, (IE: a Y intersection), and which fork you'll be taking. The 750 just displays text on top line for approaching turns with no arrow. It's somewhat extra feature around the 255w that we became of enjoy. The 255 also instantly adjusts the font size displayed text to ensure that even extended text will fit.
Another feature around the 255w is really a display from the published posted speed limit on the highway that you simply are presently on right above your present displayed speed. I discovered myself not really searching inside my vehicle speedometer when i could easily see my current speed and the rate limit of my route instantly. The 750 does not buy this feature. I also like how they moved the zoom in (+) and zoom out () buttons around the 255w towards the same side from the screen that makes it a little simpler. By EmbeddedFlyer on August 7, 2008 Should you spend enough time driving in unfamiliar territory, particularly if you rent cars in big metropolitan areas, a great portable Gps navigation bakes an amazing difference. And also the Garmin 255W is the greatest one I possibly could get in the $250 - $350 range.
First this factor simply works. I've not had any difficulties with mine. It had been easy to setup and determine away from the box, and it's not hard to use. It never has already established trouble getting sufficient signal unlike earlier and cheaper models.
I selected the 255W for many reasons: It uses a few of the newest and best maps available. It's one of the most functional touch screens for entering destinations. It's fast to get satellites. And Garmin more often than not arrives on the top in reviews--particularly in routing.
Ultimately, you purchase a vehicle Gps navigation to help you get from Point A to suggest B as quickly and effectively as you possibly can. And that is what the 255W does best. Have you ever were built with a "Brand X" Gps navigation get you on some strange route that contributes twenty minutes for your trip, has you switch the wrong manner lower a 1 way road, let you know to show After you have passed the road, frequently loses the satellite signal, or has old maps missing roads, you are aware how important these things are.
The 255W includes a really obvious display that's easy to understand in almost any light. It's sufficiently small to make use of by walking. The car windows mount is effective and it's not hard to add in the glovebox whenever you park. It also informs the posted speed limit of all roads. The "points of great interest" feature is effective to locate eateries by kind of cuisine, gasoline stations, ETC.
The main difference between your 255W and 205W may be the 255 speaks street names and includes Alaska and Canada. Read more › 2 Comments 520 of 529 people found this useful. by l. Cruz on June 29, 2008 I received this Gps navigation system about the other day, and I've not found one factor to complain about yet. The characteristics are wonderful, and all entirely easy to use. You don't need to browse the manual, Just hook it up and go! The Garmin Nuvi 255W connects to satellites very fast--Then when I recieve within my vehicle and switch it on, we are virtually all set to go immediately. The brand new display posts posted speed limit indications of major roads flush left on screen, that is a new feature that's also really useful, if you are driving in an unfamiliar place. The widescreen display makes it possible to view the names of roads that you are passing on the screen--which makes it much easier to differentiate between which road to turn on when there are two streets on your right (not clearly labeled) which are just one house apart...that has became of me two times... also, the truth that the Garmin Nuvi 255W speaks street names can also be useful in occasions such as these. Additionally, another feature I've found to become hugely useful is when fast the Nuvi 255W recalculates your situation should you choose miss a turn. I really like the detour feature, it saved me a lot of time after i heard there is any sort of accident on the road and required back roads which i might have never known existed! I would suggest the Garmin Nuvi 255W to anybody searching for a quick, reliable, and simple to use Gps navigation system.2 Comments 263 of 267 people found this useful. By Chuck on This summer 26, 2008 I have never owned a Gps navigation personally, but have experienced the periodic chance to make use of buddies and family's Gps navigation that is included with the cars, most particularly those in Honda's CRV's... and have wanted one since.
After obtaining the Nuvi 255w, I gotta say, this comes really near to the knowledge about the costly factory-installed units... only more compact. In a nutshell, I can not consider much I do not like about this.
It picks up the satellites quickly (I have never observed a lag), routes fast, has good animation (maybe 6-8 frames another?), and is extremely, very accurate. The preloaded maps don't include some of the roads that have been built in our town in the last year (which is expected), but does include our street, which is not even on Google Maps yet. (Go figure) It's light, looks good and includes all you need EXCEPT the USB cable to capture it to the pc. without having this, the only method to charge it is by using the cigarette lighter adapter which comes within the box. I simply used the one which included my camera, and it really works fine. The screen is definitely readable under the sun, and I really like the way it instantly dims to twentyPercent during the night.
One purpose this can be for, which Never imagined of before, is really a portable phone book. It doesn't only provide you with the address from the business, additionally, it provides the telephone number. Pretty awesome. I did not possess the issues with the sounds from the voices like others have. They seem best to me... just a little mechanical, but good.
The interface is really a seller for me personally. Bear in mind which i don't genuinely have much experience to check it to, but it's apparent they have put some thought in it. The icons really are a bit garish and cartoony, though... it's really no iPhone.
The Disadvantages: the documentation sucks. Not too it ought to be... Read more › Comment 128 of 130 people found this useful. Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback...
