28 of 29 people found the following review helpful Avoid the Quick Release if you don't want to risk losing your 910XT during triathlon swims
By Carlton on This summer 8, 2012 My 910XT was lost throughout the go swimming at Ironman Muncie 70.3 and now resides at the end of Prairie Creek Reservoir. Remarkably, it didn't happen throughout the first couple of minutes of combat swimming I checked my wrist in the second buoy and it had been there. I believe it had become spun from the mount during subsequent passing / being passed, or possibly it had been loosened throughout the start and just did not disappear until later.
My 910XT made it through 2 previous triathlons without incident (1.5k go swimming, 3k go swimming), but wasn't so fortunate the 3rd time.
Your comments ought to on another review recommended the individual did not possess the 910XT correctly guaranteed towards the mount. I am sure mine was since i was paranoid about losing it. But regrettably not paranoid enough to re-install the conventional band.
I understood my 910XT didn't have since i could have the decreased water proofing as my hands joined water, that can bring in the second trouble with the fast Release Package: it can make the timepiece much taller. It adds about 2 watch bands worth of thickness underneath the watch (one for that quick release back that attaches towards the watch, one for that receptacle around the band.) This adds merely a nominal quantity of resistance whenever your hands enters water throughout the forward stroke the greatest drawback is it looks less flattering by your side. (This wasn't a large enough deal for me personally not for doing things.)
The good thing from the Quick Release Package may be the bike mount. I loved getting my 910XT on my small aero bar extensions, it had been perfectly positioned for simple viewing and no arm interference. The bike mount was simple to install and plenty secure.
Should you is not doing open water swims and desire a great bike mount, this package may meet your needs. otherwise, Save the heartache and steer clear of the Quick Release Package.6 Comments Was this review useful for you? By jayPeeWhy on This summer 16, 2012 Color: Black So, that's three people here getting lost the Garmin throughout the go swimming part of a race. An array of others on various forums.
If you wish to use the Quick Release kit ... that is excellent around the bike and switching to the run ... i then recommend moving uo your wetsuit, wearing watch moving wetsuit back outrageous.
Another person explained to bin the QR strap, spin the watch to the back of the wrist when riding (works in aero) then spin it back round for that run. I will do this as losing $400 + tax towards the murky deep lake was a little too much that i can cope with.
Garmin - There should be some type of safety mechanism. The timepiece isn't safe enough throughout a race because it is.4 Comments Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... I'd my new Garmin 910XT for just two days before while using quick release band within my first triathlon. It quick released my costly Gps navigation unit to the foot of the quarry throughout the open water go swimming. The system was secure based on instructions but still was dislodged following the expected bumping occurring throughout a race.
Make use of this at the own risk. even better: don`t purchase it.5 Comments Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... By Tim N on This summer 18, 2012 Color: Black I battled just a little with how you can rate this quick release package.
Evaluating it towards the 310xt mount... Garmin 310XT QR Kit (Up-to-date)
Pros:
The band is nice (just like the 910 watch)
It is slightly lower profile
The band is attached to the backplate with screws
Cons:
It still adds too much height to the watch on my wrist
I needed allow it a 3-star rating also adding that I have heard about people losing their watch during open water swimming because of quick release backplate breaking. Since I haven't personally experienced i made the decision I could not remove a star because of this.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback...
