Stanley really blew it about this one.... First, that old-Timey form of this awl had the "spike" run completely through the handle to some metal "button" on top. There was metal in the top completely towards the tip, creating a solid tool. that one, the metal spike only goes part way through the handle and (I am guessing) is glued in. second, around the item I received, the Stanley emblem and part # that's placed around the handle is CROOKED. Not only two or three levels off kilter, but 28 degrees off (Yes, I acquired out a protractor and measured - Stanley certainly did not). I doubt that this is because intended - looks a lot more like 4:30 Friday mid-day following a 3 martini lunch and the QA guy was off on that day. Third, the end isn't exactly what I'd call a place. Close up, it's pretty blunt. Still it constitutes a nice divot in wood - but it ought to be sharper. Overall, this tools quality is really a disappointment. Stanley ought to know better, they actually accustomed to. It gets 2 stars because it can mark a spot in wood (I do not think I'd test the fit metal) and it hasn't fallen apart (yet). Therefore it works - but given the (insufficient) quality, it'll most likely finish up at the back of a drawer - and then inside a "anything within this box - 50 cents" box in a yardsale.1 Comment Was this review useful for you? By BluePlato on Feb 15, 2009 Size: 1 - Pack This appears like your grandpa's awl, so it needs to be good, right? Wrong. Sure, It features a wood handle and a pleasant feel, but exactly where it counts - the purpose in the finish from the steel shaft - the gentleness from the steel become apparent. I have had mine for a long time but I have needed to literally re-deal with the purpose using pliers. It re-bends simple and will get sort-of true, but each time I personally use this factor I believe why did not I simply with a better one? A building nail is harder than this.1 Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... Appreciate your feedback. If the review is inappropriate, Please tell us. By Athena on August 14, 2014 Size: 1 - Pack I bought this awl after my old Stanley (69-122 USA) that known as my toolbox home for pretty much two decades made the decision to perform a walkabout. I haven't got to let you know how versatile an awl could be and I am sure you realize why I replaced it immediately. The very first time I made use of that one the metal collar tucked off. (If only there have been an emoticon for moving your vision.) I can not verify its other characteristics since i happily gave it away after my original awl grew to become so homesick it resurfaced, to some very warm welcome.Comment Was this review useful for you? Everyone will not believe how bad of quality this item is. I did not wish to spend much for any scratch awl, and so i figured the stanley brand will give us a medium-quality product. Boy o boy was I wrong.
The metal cap (between your awl and the wood handle) fell off On My Small FIRST USE!!! I am not kidding. It's like they used elmer's kids glue. I'm able to repair it easily using epoxy or superglue, but That isn't the purpose. The merchandise should a minimum of endure for any year!Comment Was this review useful for you? By Al the Pal on June 29, 2000 Size: 1 - Pack I have tried personally one of these simple since Junior. High shop class 3 decades ago. It's a useful gizmo for setting the middle of a drill or screw hole on wood. Just put the point in your mark and whack it using the heel of the hands. That little dimple could keep your drill on mark or break enough fiber to provide your screw a grip. It's a fundamental hands tool that needs to be in each and every woodworkers war chest.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... I don't recommend this awl. you will find better ones available. I'd a mature stanley which was great until I dropped it on the job. The "steel" is weak and I doubt it'll last. Point wasn't machined correctly in the tip...I needed to grind it just a little to create a point.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback... By Admiral Schmickover on March 12, 2015 Size: 1 - Pack
of low quality quality. I keep mine inside a rack and treat my tools well. With periodic light use, the collar has separated as a result of poor glue job and poor friction fit. The conclusion has worn in which the tool sits within the rack and I have only been with them for any couple of several weeks. Tip can also be not the pointiest when compared with other awls I have owned. My recommendation would be to put money into a much better tool. Comment Was this review useful for you? not what it was once! The chrome collar between your spike and handle sprang off after a little light use. I've a mature one of these simple, and and also the brand new one includes a smaller sized handle and is simply generally less well-crafted. The price cutting within the cool product is obvious, and unfortunate.Comment Was this review useful for you? Yes No Delivering feedback...
